Who we are
Leonard Cheshire Disability supports over 21,000 disabled people in the UK and Isle of Man and works in 52 countries. We campaign for change and provide innovative services that give disabled people the opportunity to live life their way. We want people to change the way they see disability - to think and act differently to make a positive difference to the lives of disabled people.
Our commitment
The needs and aspirations of the people who use our services are at the heart of all that we do. We are committed to maximising personal choice and independence, we support each individual to draw up their own personalised ‘Individual Service Plan’ to ensure their physical, emotional, social and personal development needs are met in a truly person-centred way.
The work we do
Community Service
Outreach Services: Our Outreach Service is Island wide, offering support to physically disabled adults to enable them to be active in their local communities and build their social networks. Referrals can be made via the Adult Disability Social Work Team. We will support individuals to contact them if you do not have a Social Worker.
Each person is encouraged to identify their goals and aspirations, flexible staffing is in place to ensure individual potential is realised and maximum independence achieved. Usually our service is one to one but on occasions small groups may choose to have their sessions together. We can support individuals in a wide range of activities, including social groups, swimming, college sessions, visiting libraries and fishing to name a few, whatever the individual wishes to do we will try to support them to achieve it.
Supported Living Services
Thie Quinney: Thie Quinney is a purpose built unit on one level with easy level access to the town of Ramsey, housing six permanently tenanted and two respite flats for adults of all ages with a range of physical disabilities. We work in partnership with the Isle of Man Government and offer a flexible and empowering service to each of our tenants providing a genuine alternative to traditional residential care. All referrals of permanent and respite tenancies are made through the Adult Disability Team within Social Services.
Tenants are encouraged to maximise their independence with individualised packages of support, to play a full part in the life of the local community and in the running of the service.
Our Team
We have a committed and dedicated staff and volunteer team, fully trained in the values that underpin our services. We encourage people to play a full part in the life and running of our services and our wider organisation if they desire.

Could you help with befriending, assisting disabled people to attend activities, fundraising, awareness raising, the Computer Drop In Centre at Onchan or International fundraising? In return for your time you will receive out of pocket expenses, training, continued support and join in with social events.
Corporate Volunteering and fundraising is always welcomed. Please contact us if you are a business looking to support a local or national charity for disabled people. We are happy to explore opportunities and ideas with you.
