Village Clinics

There is no free Government health care and so all medical treatment must be paid for. This can be a huge burden for low income families.  A visit to a doctor becomes a last resort and folk remedies remain the first line of defense against illness.

Gwalior Health and Education Charitable Trust operate a regular village clinic service that benefits very needy families in the rural villages surrounding Snehalaya.   Free village clinics give villagers an opportunity for a medical examination by a qualified doctor or nurse and to be prescribed modern basic medicines.

Common ailments are:  Parasitic infections, such as worms, Diarrhea, (a common infection, but also a symptom of typhoid), Viral fever (Influenza), and Malnutrition - usually iron and vitamin deficiencies.

Village clinics also provide a check upon dangerous diseases that may be present such as Malaria, Dengue fever, TB, typhoid, polio.

Part of the clinics work is women’s heath and women’s health in pregnancy.
