Who we are
The Manx Foundation is a "Manx" charity and has no support from a parent organisation in the UK.  It was formed in 1974 and is the second oldest charity established in the Isle of Man.

Our aims

  • To improve the quality of life for people who have a physical disability and their carers
  • To deliver excellent day care for service users
  • To raise the profile and increase the awareness of the needs of local disabled people and disabled people visiting the Isle of Man
  • To provide the first point for advice, guidance and education on issues affecting disabled people in respect of access to buildings, goods and services

The work we do
We provide social care for adults who have physical disabilities.  Day care services are provided for people with a wide range of disabilities and varying needs.  Our Access Officer provides an advisory service on matters relating to issues of access to buildings, goods and services.  We also provide a community transport service in the Douglas,Braddan and Onchan area for people with a wide range of disabilities.

Day Service:  A service available five days a week for adults who have physical disabilities.  On offer is a range of activities, entertainment and outings, for example pet therapy, manicures, crafts, quizzes, theatre, chair based exercise, gardening, bingo and card games and for the more adventurous activities such as sailing and horse riding.  All activities are person centred and designed around individual service users.  We are able to cater for people who have difficulties with communication and are able to liaise with healthcare professionals for advice on aids and adaptations and other healthcare services.

Young Ones:  This service is available three days a week and is specifically aimed at adults between the ages of 18 and 45 who are physically disabled.  The focus is community based with a range of activities encouraging the development of new skills such as cooking skills and sports development in addition to the range of activities and entertainment already offered in our Day Service.

Access Office:  For advice, guidance and education on issues that affect disabled people.  We work in partnership with local voluntary groups, Government, local architects, surveyors, developers, designers and contractors as well as the public to promote access improvements across the Island.

Community Transport:  This is a door to door service in a specially adapted minibus for people who find it difficult or impossible to use conventional forms of  transport.
